Officials and volunteer helpers are vital to the effective functioning of weekly Centre competition. To ensure that individuals feel adequately prepared when taking on a role at Centre level, or if they wish to progress to region and/or state competitions, several development pathways exist.
STATE-BASED OFFICIALS EDUCATION
As a modified sport, Little Athletics applies variations of the World Athletics rules in an age-appropriate manner. Focused on teaching the application of modified rules, LAVic offer several workshops and programs, each of which can be found below. Completion of an LAVic state-based education program is strongly recommended to commence your official or helper’s journey.

ADDITIONAL WORKSHOPS
Those looking for an advanced pathway, following completion of one of the above listed programs, may choose to pursue World Athletics Referee accreditation.
Available through the World Athletics ELearning Portal HERE, the National Athletics Referee course (And/or the introductory Apprentice Level) is a great next step. The National Athletics Referee course is free, however does require the creation of an account.
It is important to recognise that Little Athletics is a modified sport, and as such not all rules/events covered in World Athletics education will be relevant and/or applied in the same manner. Those wishing to pursue World Athletics accreditation should familiarise themselves with Little Athletics Victoria’s Rules and Regulations, which are available HERE.
On occasion, Athletics Victoria, or other associated bodies offer workshops that may assist in expanding or refreshing a participant’s understanding of athletics officiating.
