Child Safe Policies

The Working with Children Check (WWCC) applies to adults who work with children or are engaged in volunteer roles involving children (under 18 years of age). The WWC Check applicable in Victoria is the mandatory minimum standard for a range of child-related industries.

The WWC Check helps to protect children from sexual or physical harm by checking a person’s criminal history for serious sexual, serious violence or serious drug offences and findings from certain professional disciplinary bodies’ such as the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Victorian Government through the Department of Justice has replaced the “Working with Children Act 2005,” with the “Worker Screening Act 2020” which has distinct implications on the conduct of Little Athletics. In New South Wales the applicable legislation is “The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012”.

Whilst continuing to be exempt from holding a WWCC since 2019 there has been a requirement that Victorian registered teachers notify Working with Children Check Victoria (WWCCV) of any child-related work (paid or voluntary) that they do outside of teaching in a school/early learning environment. This requirement applies regardless of whether the teacher is involved in Little Athletics weekly or do a parent duty a couple of times a year.

Teachers who have not yet advised WWCCV of their volunteer connection with Little Athletics Victoria should do so via this link HERE.

Little Athletics Victoria will then be advised of this registration and in the event that the Teacher’s VIT registration is cancelled or suspended we will be contacted.
