Beyond Centre‑based officiating, accredited officials may progress through national and international pathways via World Athletics.
Officials seeking to advance must first complete the National Athletics Referee (NAR) course through the World Athletics eLearning Hub. This course combines theory‑based learning with supervised practical experience across track, jumps, and throws.
Completion of the NAR course is the first step toward World Athletics Bronze accreditation, which requires:
- Completion of prescribed education modules
- Practical officiating experience
- A minimum period of officiating involvement
Progression beyond Bronze level provides further opportunities at higher‑level competitions, including national championships and international events.
Officials interested in pursuing this pathway are encouraged to engage early, gain diverse officiating experience, and connect with the Little Athletics and Athletics Victoria officiating community.

To pursue a World Athletics accreditation, you’ll first need to enrol on the World Athletics eLearning Hub. To get started, follow the steps below.
- Create yourself a personal account on the World Athletics eLearning Hub.
- Navigate to the Courses menu (sidebar on desktop), then select Technical Officials (WARECS), and enrol yourself in the National Athletics Referee course.
- Complete all required theory modules, including assessment, to generate your Course Completion Evidence form (you’ll need to print a copy).
- Contact your officials’ education/appointments manager to arrange three days of practical experience at a permitted meet* (one of each track, jumps, and throws).
- Complete your practical experience (remember to bring your printed Evidence Form).
- Keep going! – you’ll need three years of experience to be able to sit for your bronze accreditation.
