Centres will recall that at the 2025 AGM, the Board, via special (constitutional) motion, asked Centres to vote on reducing the minimum age of Competitive Members (athletes) to 3yo to facilitate the introduction of an optional Coles Tiny Tots program. That motion was narrowly voted down.

At the 2026 AGM, the Board again will ask our Centres to vote on the introduction of an optional Coles Tiny Tots program. This time, this will be done via the following ordinary motion: “To approve the creation by the Board of a new membership category known as ‘Tiny Tots Member’ for athletes that have attained the age of 3 years of age and until they are of the age where they are eligible to register as a Competitive Member.”

The creation of the new category of membership will be via amendment to existing Regulation 7.

Again, conducting Coles Tiny Tots will be entirely optional for Centres.

What is Coles Tiny Tots?

Coles Little Athletics Tiny Tots is a modified introductory sports program for children aged 3–4 years. Designed to encourage the development of the Fundamental Movement Skills of running, walking, jumping and throwing that underpin the growth of specialised sporting skills in athletics and other sports.

The aim of the Coles Little Athletics Tiny Tots Program is to improve the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of children through a play-based approach that is engaging and stimulating to the child.

Through these positive first experiences in an athletics and fundamental skill development environment, children are more likely to develop a healthy passion for athletics and lifelong enjoyment of participating in sport and physical activity.

This resource contains 10 weeks of session plans, each session includes 4 activities per session, lasting approximately 45–60 minutes. The range of activities which are designed to develop the three Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS):

  • Stability (balance, landing and rotating)
  • Locomotor (running, jumping, hopping, skipping and leaping)
  • Manipulative (throwing and catching)

Parents are encouraged to get involved with the Coles Little Athletics Tiny Tots program by assisting with activities or by being an enthusiastic and supportive spectator.
